Poetry In my poetry, I explore my own displacement as first generation born and my returning to the land where my roots reach farther back than family history knows. I rewrite ancestors as they were remembered through family oral histories with the intention to honor the women in my lineage. I am interested in the nostalgia and the longing to bring those who are gone, into a present space by accompanying poetry and performance. I speak my ancestry into existence by reading my poems aloud. Consequently, they cannot be forgotten and there is a reconnection that would not otherwise be possible.
Short Stories Words can create such a beautiful and clear image, and that is something that I strive for in my writing. While my short stories are heavily influenced by my life, and my personal experiences, I find that most of my work remains close in the lines of cultural and familiar stories.
